Angry goose wanders onto field during Cubs game – and refuses to leave

It might be the first baseball goose sighting since Gossage retired. And this bird is nearly as feisty as the former Yankees fireballer.

During Sunday’s Cubs-Diamondbacks game in Arizona, a goose found his way into the outfield at Salt River Fields and lingered for quite some time. The bird flew in and made himself comfortable in the grass behind Cubs outfielder Rafael Ortega, who took note of the animal in between pitches.

“I didn’t know what that was. It’s making me a little nervous right now. But he can manage space pretty well, he can probably outrun him right now,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said during the Fox Sports Arizona telecast.

And when another goose came along, the first became territorial and chased it away, viciously biting at the intruder’s tail.

Arizona ultimately prevailed 5-4 to extend their preseason win streak to three games.
