Observations from Friday’s Mets workout:
Dellin Betances throwing to hitters was a win-win. Pete Alonso did take him deep, but Betances also induced some funny-looking swings and takes with his off-speed pitches looking sharp and fastball reportedly sitting in the low-90s — higher than it was at this time last year.
During a live batting practice session on another field, Robert Gsellman hit Michael Conforto with an off-speed pitch. Fortunately for the Mets, it caught Conforto on his right shin guard and he laughed it off.

Alex Cohen, the wife of owner Steve Cohen, was at camp to announce the launch of the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, of which she is the president. Before that, she made the rounds on the back fields, sharing a hug and chat with Francisco Lindor, among others.
Another full-squad workout is in store before the Mets open Grapefruit League play Monday versus the Marlins.
